Lake reservoir of Skinias
In the Municipality of Minoa Pediadas there has been significant irrigation infrastructure which has been converted into remarkable habitats. One of these is the artificial lake of Skinias, which is located one kilometer north of the homonymous settlement. It is supplied with water by the river Baritis and it aims at the irrigation of the surrounding area concerning arable land. The reservoir has become an attraction for migratory birds over time, such as ducks and herons and other species of aquatic organisms, such as the Cretan frog, the Mauremys rivulata (a freshwater turtle), etc.
