Sampas
Sampas is situated about 30 kilometers from Kastelli. The settlement is referred as “Samba” in the Duke’s file of Candia in 1382, constituting Iac. Grimani’s fief.
The few villagers’ occupation today is viticulture and olive growing. A very important Byzantine church with frescoes survives in the picturesque village of Sabah, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. You will find it in the western part of the settlement. A small church of Agios Nikolaos, which dates back to the same period, is also very interesting and beautiful.
