Monuments

Venetian fountains, castles and small fortresses, deserted old villages, memorials dedicated to war heroes and ruined constructions of the German Occupation period stand as reminders of the local history, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Windmills, watermills, olive oil presses and raki distillation facilities, stone bridges and old schools, traditional houses and work places, they all bring the era of industrial acme back to life, and remind us of traditional bread-making and raki distillation techniques. In those times, local people were taught how to control the water and harness the wind to their advantage, and how to work stone and metal with their own hands. Every village has its special traditions, every corner of this land its charming history.
