Loukoumakia

Ingredients for the dough:

1 cup of olive oil
1 glass of lye (water boiled with ash)
1 cup of orange juice
1 cup of sugar
1 baking powder
2 or 3 sachets of dry yeast
Flour

Ingredients for the syrup:

500 ml of honey
2/3 cup of warm water
Sesame
Cinnamon
Sunflower oil and olive oil for frying

Preparation

Mix oil and sugar. Then add the orange juice and the lye, which is preferably lukewarm. Then add the yeast and stir. Slowly add the flour, the baking powder and knead so as the dough is not too hard. Cover the bowl and leave the dough for about 30 minutes to rest. Then cut it into pieces and mold each piece into strips. Using a small knife cut them into cubes. Do the same until all the dough is finished. Meanwhile, heat the oil and fry the loukoumakia. Then, prepare the syrup by warming the honey with water. Place the loukoumakia delicacies into a platter, pour syrup and sprinkle them with sesame seeds and cinnamon.
