Windmills and watermills

It takes only a short walk through the villages of the Plain to realize that air and water used to be the driving force of the local economy and life of each settlement in the Plain. Deserted windmills and watermills, remnants of an earlier period are found at various places in the valley, reminding everyone of the tradition of each place.

The watermills and windmills are important monuments of the preindustrial period with multiple significance: historical, architectural, economic, social and cultural. The main use of the mills was the production of flour, which is the main ingredient of the bread, perhaps the most important food product for all people.

The windmill of Gazepi, plenty of watermills in Karavados village and other monuments that stand today in ruins are scattered in the countryside of the Plain waiting to be discovered.
