Arhontiko
1.5 km. north of Arkalohori and about 35 km. from Heraklion lies the settlement of Arhontiko. It has an altitude of 440 meters and the location offers an excellent view of the area, as it is located on the rim of the hills leading to the Minoan palace in the place called “Galatiani Kefala”.
Arhontiko was founded back in the early Byzantine Period and it has been inhabited since then. The village is particularly famous for the event “Hohlidovradia”, which is an evening dedicated to snails. The festival is held every July by the active Cultural Association of the village and is famous among lovers of this Cretan traditional food.
