Located two kilometers south of the village Houmeri lies Zida, built at an altitude of 490 meters, near the crest of the hills bordering the plain of Houmeri. It is about 31 km away from Heraklion.

A lot of archaeological findings are scattered in the wider area of Zida, confirming human activity since prehistoric times. Today Zida is a beautiful small village in the center of which there is the single-aisled church of St. Nicholas.
