Churches-Monasteries
Numerous Byzantine churches are to be found in almost every town and village within the limits of Minoa Pediadas Municipality. These significant historical and cultural monuments date back to the period between the 12th century and the 15th century AD, and many feature remarkable frescoes. One can also visit three important Monasteries, the Kallergis Monastery, the Nunnery of Agia Marina Voni and the Agarathou Monastery (dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin), which continue the old-time traditions of monastic life in Crete. The contemporary churches and chapels that adorn the squares of the villages and the hilltops of Padiada are also worth mentioning.
