Description of the route

From the Monastery of Agarathos follow the dirt track that goes north and after 100 meters turn right into a downhill dirt track, which crosses the small slope north of the gardens of the monastery. On the left a small chapel can be seen up the hill.

We continue following the dirt track through undergrowth slopes with green bushes and after about 1.8 km we encounter an asphalt road which we follow downhill for 1.5 km and we approach a country road at a specific place with an old farmhouse and cypresses. On the south, up the hillside, about 150 meters away, the small village of Sampa can be seen.

Turn left and follow the country road to the east and after 1.3 km you reach a junction towards Zoforoi. Continue east for 2 km to the village of Apostoloi and after 4.5 km you arrive at Kastelli.

The route to Kastelli crosses olive groves and vineyards and is quite interesting with the view of the open horizon, the hills and far to the east the mount Dikti. The village of Apostoloi is the starting point of the road towards the south that leads us to Thrapsano, one of the oldest and most important modern pottery centers in Crete.
