Ano Poulia
The village Ano Poulia is situated 37 kilometers from Heraklion, at an altitude of 395 meters. The name of the village means “the nest of birds” or otherwise the word “Poulitsa” is used with the same meaning.
The village of Ano Poulia is ideal for hikes and walks in nature, while it offers a magnificent view of the Messara valley and Mount Asterousia. You may explore several small settlements existing around the village. Among them you can visit the beautiful Handrou on the east, a small settlement with a lot of springs. The dam of Ini on the south is not very far away.
